Five for Friday 12.31.10

How many of you worked this week? I am sure not many as my office was a ghost town, but I did enjoy the two-day work week – hell it allowed me to get to a clean

inbox, down from the 700 unread emails in my work box. Hopefully you’ve got some good plans for tonight and have planned for a ride home or to spend the night somewhere. Don’t be a dumbass, and enjoy this week’s version of Five for Friday.

Cory Booker: The Mayor of Twitter and Superhero of the Blizzard – there is no question that I am a fan of Corey Booker. While I don’t live in Jersey anymore, his story and approach to new media is truly impressive. You can chalk his handling of the #Sowpacalypse situation in 140 characters really cool. I am sure it made other mayors kind of pissed.

Calculating the ROI of Social Technologies in the Work World [Infographic] – I know you are probably sick of Infographics too, but this one hits on a point that everyone is trying to get a firm grasp on – ROI of social media. This one shows the ROI of enterprise social software which is foreign to me, but pretty cool.

Why Tech Already Has Women (And Why They’re Better Than Arrington) – This is a great post from Danny Brown and Geoff Livingston. They really hit home on a sensitive topic in many industries now. I think that a good solution would be to make submissions for concepts blind and based upon the merits of the case, not the gender, company or credo. Definitely give this and the comments a good read.

Public Relations Learned the Hard Way – I love recap posts, especially when they provide real learnings within the piece. I am glad I saw this one come across Keith Trivitt’s Twitter stream and think you’ll enjoy it as well.

Social Media, Space Aliens, and The End Of The WorldDan Perez is on of my favorite folks to interact with in Twitter chats. He’s funny as hell and smart to boot, and this post mixes the two. Not only does it tie into a documentary that I watched on the Mayan 2012 prophecies, but it also pokes fun at our dumbification via pop culture (and yes I made the word up). Definitively check it out.

    Hey there Jeff,

Thanks for sharing our post with your readers, sir – agree, it’s something we all need to look at, and look for solutions as opposed to just moaning about the problem.

Been great getting to know you better this year, mate, and here’s to more conversations in 2011 and beyond – have a great New Year!

@DannyBrown I think the blind submission system that we were talking about the other day would really work. People get too caught up in mega brands and talking heads dubbed experts. Hopefully we’ll see a groundswell of sorts in 2011. Cheers
