Five for Friday 11.20

So to call this week hectic would be an understatement. Let’s start with the fact that it is mid-year review time and I have a bunch to do before heading out tonight. I also worked up a presentation for my managers talking about what the company needs to do to be successful in social media. There was also smoothing over an issue with one of my mom bloggers – sometimes I miss-speak, it happens. There is also the issue of me getting married next week. So I have been running around like a chicken with its head off to get things all done before 5:00 p.m. today. While I will be taking a hiatus from writing over the next 10-12 days, I have some great posts lined up from @PRCog and @Stina6001 from the PR Breakfast Club (be sure to visit and check #prbc if you haven’t already) along with @Aerocles (check his blog here). So without further adieu and further rantings, here is this week’s Five for Friday.

Obama: I’m too clumsy for Twitter – The title of this article is a little misleading, but the content is interesting. The statement did come up from the President while discussing unfiltered social networking sites with students in China. Granted it might be cool to see what the leader of the free world is doing or thinking at any given time, but in reality it would be a logistical nightmare with one mis-Tweet on National Security or happening that should be kept on the DL.

Study: Most Fortune 100 Companies Don’t Get Twitter – While this report shouldn’t surprise me, it actually does to an extent. With all of the books written lately on social media along with conferences and case studies, you would think that these companies would have a PR team or agency advising them on these things. For businesses of all sizes it seems like there needs to be a conversation of the value of conversations.

Guess how many Tweets fly across Twitter each day – This one comes across from Brian Solis and was pretty interesting. How many Tweets do you think get broadcast each day? 1M, 20M, 50M? Click the link to find out – the answer will surprise you.

The seven harsh realities of social media – This kind of goes along with the study mentioned above. By pointing out the realities, it also goes to show the simple things that are often missed by companies or vulture marketers.

Social media FAQs…NO! – I came across this link after reading a Tweet from Sarah Evans. It is a list of questions that we’ve all heard numerous times, but are OK to say no to. It’s a quick read that will give you a chuckle if you’re having a crap day.
