Over the past few months I have been swamped and have had ideas stuck in my head and struggled to get them out. Below’s a video of how I broke out of this to get my ideas and thoughts in order.
Where do you go when you’re stuck?

Where do you go when you’re stuck?
Am I missing something? 😉
KDillabough ugh… second time WordPress failed to keep the YouTube video in the post when I set it up. Try now
jeffespo Yay! We have ignition:) I take breaks throughout the day, and carve out spaces and time to relax, reflect and rejuvenate. My favourite thing to do is to take country drives or long walks and take photographs. Get really close to things…be observant…see the details, smile and appreciate nature around me. That’s the best tonic for me. And yes…I love being near water as well. If I could spend my days collecting rocks and/or seashells along a shoreline, I’d be a happy gal all day long. Cheers! Kaarina
Oh yes, the beach is perfect for me. My most calming and relaxing moments and the best ideas often come from grabbing a drink down at a bar by the sea and staring out at the ocean. Best thing is I can do it at any time since the beach is only a few minutes away.
I know it sounds bizarre, but the gym or on a long run is my place of refuge for inspiration. Most people like to isolate themselves to be inspired but I like to be around people, plugged in and alone in my thoughts.
John_Trader1 Are you an extrovert? 🙂
Running – by myself – is one of my other thinking times.
When I’m stuck, I take a break. I leave the table – my usual work space – and change the setting. I’ll work on something else or do something else.
Erin F. John_Trader1 I am kind of a closet introvert Erin. Love to be around people but happy just soaking it all in as opposed to mingling, which I will gladly do.
Running by myself is my therapy and like you, an EXCELLENT time to think!
John_Trader1 I can see that at the gym or running, but haven’t run in nearly 10 years or been to the gym in 2+. Unplugging is essential
John_Trader1 Erin F. Well I think Erin may have invited you on a run John
Erin F. I used to be able to do that, but now… not so much
John_Trader1 Do you know Steve Woodruff? He’s been having an interesting conversation at his site about introverts.
stacyannhayles please don’t remind me of your proximity to the beach 🙂 Our view has much different white stuff on the ground now.
jeffespo I don’t always have the time to take the break, especially right now. I usually tackle some other project that needs to be finished, then return to the other. It’s a blessing of setting deadlines before the real deadlines.
I could go all editor on you. I’ve ordered a person to take an hour every week to work on his e-book. What’s keeping you from taking a break or changing the setting or work?
jeffespo John_Trader1 Haha! I think John runs further and probably faster than I do. I’m up to eight miles, though.
jeffespo John_Trader1 It’s one of the best times to do some critical thinking Jeff and also helps to keep my mind off how much I suck at running.
Erin F. jeffespo John_Trader1 Erin, I will run with you anytime. Hope we can do that this year sometime!! 🙂
John_Trader1 Erin F. I will watch you both do that
Erin F. projects piling up :/
jeffespo Hmm. Projects can be good but not to the point of being overwhelmed. No chance of putting some of them on back burners for a bit?
jeffespo John_Trader1 You can give us some water when we get to the finish line. 🙂
John_Trader1 jeffespo That would be lovely.
Erin F. I wish all of the things are large projects that were backfill with my boss leaving so I am above water now a bit 😉
jeffespo That’s tough. You’ll have to call on us if you need help bailing water at some point.
jeffespo stacyannhayles Don’t worry. I’ll be there experiencing the snow for the first time pretty soon. *shivers*
Changing the environment is a quick way put the stops on the monkey-mind, and although going somewhere is preferable – I live pretty close to the water – going INSIDE is also a great escape and way to reduce stress and boost creativity. I use my senses, the breath, a bit of lavender oil. How do we ease the brain into that place of calm. Very individual process. Just watching your video – the sounds of the ocean were so soothing . It inspired me. 🙂
judymartin81 Awesome!
stacyannhayles the cold is good for you
judymartin81 And what is this monkey mind you speak of?
There is nothing like the woods for me. In the mountains. I’ve been gone for the past 7 days and it was a pretty stressful 7 days. I cannot tell you how wonderful it feels to return to my home in the mountains! I do my best thinking on long trail runs with my black lab or skate skiing with my friends.
Lisa Gerber I miss the mountains so much.
Hey Jeff! I have a porch swing in my backyard where I go to think sometimes. The cool breeze, birds chirping, and sunshine seem to melt away stresses and mental blocks. Thanks for the great video clip!
kcossin 🙂 thanks for popping by. I can see a porch swing being relaxing and a great spot to get lost in thought.

Cheers! Kaarina
