This is it – the final weekend of the 2012 NFL regular season, chock-full of great divisional games with playoff implications. Has your team punched their ticket to the dance or are you just looking forward to a draft pick and the MLB season? Over the course of the season we’ve used social media buzz to predict the outcome of each NFL game (full breakdown here). Despite a lackluster 7-9 showing in Week 16, this method has posted a 131-101-1 record.
To help gauge how well this method does against the methods of other humans, we grabbed a friend of mine to predict their games vs. the social media NFL picks. The best picker will get $100 donated to a charity of their choice. This week’s contestant is my friend Doug Haslam who added some color commentary to his picks on the games:
- HOU at IND: Wow, that will be a great game. Tough pick with Indy at home. I begrudgingly say the Texans teach the Colts and Luck a lesson in trying to build a winning franchise
- CAR at NO: Saints have been a disappointment, but they roll at home against a Panthers team that is not solid enough. Lots of points.
- PHI at NYG: Eagles, in a game rendered only slightly more watchable than JAX/TEN. Seriously, the Giants have gone from SB champs to “at least we’re not the Jets” in the matter of a few weeks
- CLE at PITT: Steelers are not what they have been, but they win at home vs CLE in an ugly one
- OAK at SD: Norv Turner’s swan song. Raiders win
Below are all of this weekend’s picks:
DOUG: CIN, BUF, CHI, TEN, HOU, NO, PHI, PIT, OAK, SF, SEA, GB, NE, DEN, TB, WAS
SOCIAL MEDIA: BAL, NYJ, CHI, JAX, HOU, NO, NYG, PIT, OAK, SF, SEA, GB, NE, DEN, ATL, DAL
Early games over and I already beat the Internet. Take that, Internet!
