By nature, bars are very social places. You meet up with friends after a long day of work, hit one up before or after sporting events or just for a liquid lunch (don’t lie you’ve had one or two before). With that in mind, I always find it interesting that in general, they don’t try to promote from within their walls.
We’re not talking parties or specials here, but rather bringing friends to the party while in the joint by word of mouth or socially driven efforts. So I was happily surprised when I saw the coaster above at the Bleacher Bar on Saturday night.
The Bleacher Bar is located at Fenway Park and for most nights in the summer is full of fans getting ready for a ball game. The place is also a tourist trap – folks from out of town come in check out the old park and then grab a bite while looking out at center field. However on nights like Saturday, when the Sox are on the road and not much is going on around the Fens, the place is empty.
The Twitter branding on the coasters allow patrons to easily Tweet out that the bar is empty to help bring more friends into the place. It is pretty simple, but in a day and age when smart phones are attached to people’s thumbs, it is a definite buzz generator.
On top of the coasters, the bar also has free postcards for the taking. They are branded so anyone receiving one will have the bar’s logo next to old pictures of the park and Sox from yesteryear.
So with that I tip my cap to you Bleacher Bar.
