School PR, give Google a chance & bad salt water

What a roller coaster of a week. First there was Sandy (thoughts and prayers are still with friends and family in Jersey/NY) followed up by a sick day and now ending the week with a few days alone with baby Espo. Hopefully your week was good and if you were impacted by Sandy that things are starting to get back to normal. Have a great weekend and catch you on Monday. Here’s this week’s edition of Five for Friday.

There’s Nothing Savvy About Marketing or Newsjacking Disasters – this is a good post from Danny Brown showcasing the really seedy side of marketing with folks trying to take advantage of Hurricane Sandy.

Why Brands STILL don’t Understand Digital Influence? – great read from Dr. Michael Wu on the problem with online influence.

‘The Mom Next Door’ and School PR – this post looks at a study of moms and how they value recommendations – definitely worth the read.

Does Google deserve more credit – I read this post from Geoff Livingston a few times. While I admit that I like to rail on Google for Plus, I must admit that I love the company and the products they put out. They also followed their do no evil mantra with facial recognition and understand how to work with businesses as opposed to those other guys.

Why Salt Water in the Subway Is So Extremely Dangerous – some bad news for the public transportation outlets flooded in New York City.
