Do you ever wonder what you were doing on this exact day a year ago? If you are like me, it is probably something that has crossed your mind a couple hundred times.
If you fit the bill, don’t worry, there is an app for that – Timehop.
Each morning the application fires off an email to you outlining your foursquare check-ins, Tweets, Facebook updates and Instagram images from a year ago along with fun facts about the date and a quip like the one below.
While Timehop might seem pointless, I would argue that it is important for us to look back and see what we were doing a year in the past. One of the things that really stands out to me is seeing the different ways that I have used the platforms and how my verbiage and sharing habits have changed or matured.
Working in social media, we often forget to shed the spotlight on ourselves when we mock a company or individual who screwed up. We’re all human and make mistakes every now and then and can see when we might have posted something that we probably shouldn’t have.
Thanks to Timehop, I know where I was a year ago. Do you?
@bitty_boop why thanks…. I don’t call you that, you did 😉
@jeffespo Hahah oh I know I’m a hot mess. Looking back on the places I went last year makes me laugh daily.
@bitty_boop its why I love it
I’ve used Timehop for a couple months and it’s just a fun look back. One day, I saw I’d checked into a movie theater on that day, but couldn’t remember what movie it was. I had fun tweeting with folks to try to figure it out. Turned out it was a movie I’d taken my boys to and that reminded me I hadn’t done that with them in a while.
Earth-shattering? No. But enjoyable and interesting and maybe a good reminder of the important things in life? Sure.
@jeffespo I actually was trying to be funny without clicking your link and your link is actually about Timehop Abe. #GoFigure
@OffThe_Record <BOOM>
Cool app Jeff, thanks for letting me know about it.
@ginidietrich Hi Gini, here’s a link to my article about day 2 of the Vocus conferfence: http://t.co/eP8YnKg1 Always a pleasure !
LOVE, LOVE Timehop… have used it for over a year (and written about it several times!) and it’s like getting a little time capsule in your emailbox every morning. I also use Memolane which varies the time… sometimes it’s 1 year ago other times it’s 3 years ago. Getting the ones from 3 years ago is even funnier!
@ginidietrich Love @timehop. I use @memolane as well which varies the time. Sometimes it’s 1 year ago, other times it’s 3 (which are a hoot)
@KristenDaukas that might creep me out there 🙂
@mediachick76 Oh! Thanks!!
@KristenDaukas That would drive me crazy!
@NatSlavin Now you know how much stuff you put online
@kbreilly Oh yeah? What were you doing exactly at this moment a year ago?
@KristenDaukas @ginidietrich Glad you like Memolane! Our memomails can actually go back as far as 10 years ago if you have old content 😉
@ginidietrich @memolane I love it!! Especially when it comes to the posts that have the girls in them
@memolane I certainly do but haven’t gotten a post older than 3 years.. I’ll cross my fingers to get an older one!
@KristenDaukas You can also visit your All My Memories Lane on Memolane and see how far back in time it goes : )
