Last week, I ran a report to decide the Super Bowl Champion using social buzz. After analyzing the data with the Lithium Social Media monitoring software, the collective social Web decided that the Green Bay Packers would be the Super Bowl champs. Fast forward a week and we’re looking at a successful experiment for using social buzz to crown a champion.
The trend carried on over the past 24-hours as the Packers were mentioned nearly 9,000 more times than the losing Steelers.

Since (to the best of my knowledge) we only have a 1 game sample, so I’d lean more towards lucky than sustainable prediction…
What will be fun will be using this same technology during March Madness and THEN seeing how accurate social media is. THAT would be FUN!
@jmatthicks Doing it with preseason numbers did not workout too well. Dallas vs. SD in the SB. With MLB it got one of the WS teams from the playoff pool. Need to figure out a metric to make a level playing field for smaller markets
