Five for Friday 01.07.11

The first full week back after a long vacation including New Year’s EveSwimmers during learn to swim week, at a suburban swimming pool, probably Wellington region, ca 1939 definitely drags.  My week was filled with visitors starting on NYE with my buddy Nick, then a couple that we’re friends with came to watch football and then my brother was in to install some lights/fans for us. The work week was slow some days, but fast others. The week kind of sucked because I started rehab on my shoulder and the take home exercises suck, but enough rambling, here’s this week’s installment of Five for Friday.

Harvard, Yale beaten in university brand survey – My wife passed this article along to me and I see it as an interesting measure that can probably be associated to small businesses. It may sound like a stretch, but think about it this way, Harvard and Yale are Ivy institutions, while I can honestly say that I had never heard of the University of Wisconsin at Madison before, it is impressive that their hustle has built up digital brand equity using new media.

Robert Scoble Discusses Women in Tech – In last week’s edition, I shared an article from Geoff Livingston and Danny Brown on women in Tech that got a bunch of people talking. One of them was Scoble, who thought that things were taken out of context. Since I commented on the original article and shared it with you, I would be remiss if I did not share with you.

Is Quora Just A Social Media Crush? – If you have been under a rock or disconnected from email for a week you might have missed the mass peeping of Quora. It’s a new question answering service that has been around for roughly a year, but has now hit the tipping point. I just don’t see the value, but if you want to learn more about this service and the social crush, peep out my boy Mike Schaffer’s post on it.

4 skills brands *should* be seeking in their social media talent – A while back I talked about who is vetting social media folks for all of these vacancies that companies are now hiring. This week, Arik Hanson tackled the topic noting things that should be looked by companies looking for a social media role.

The Fifteen Most Hated American Companies Of 2010 – Lists are always fun, especially ones that are full of people we love to hate.
