Over the past few weeks, I have been noticing a good number of posts on social media that were either an attack on an industry pundit, so-called A-listers or just straight up self-loathing. While it was a welcome break from the written fellatio, I was kind of taken aback by it.
After all the root of social media is social and many folks are all about making the web a more open place. So why would you take an attack to simply fit inside your closed box of opinions?
I made this video after reading a group of posts, including one from my friend Danny Brown on his post titled Everyone is Someone’s Child (I suggest reading).
What do you think, is this an overreaction or do we need to look more at ourselves on less of a pedestal?

I can see what you mean. The coldness I’ve seen a lot of are “what not to do” discussions/posts. I think that in people’s efforts to establish themselves as experts, people jump on the mistakes of others or criticize how other companies are doing social. But that’s BS. If you’re truly innovative you don’t have to dwell on the crap that already exists – you write about new, good ideas and you don’t put down others.
Besides, all of this is all so new that I’d venture to say if you aren’t making mistakes, you aren’t really trying new stuff with social. That means “you’re doing it wrong.”
@JanetAronica You hit the nail on the head. Too many people want to be right all the time and criticize and knock down folks who are not in their line of thinking. And hey you have to fall down before you can walk or ride a bike. Show me someone who has made no mistake in this space and I will show you a liar or a snake oil salesman.
