Social Media’s NFL Picks for Week 5

How is your team faring heading into Week 5 of the 2011 season? Heading into the bye week, I am happy to see the Ravens sitting at 3-1 after laying an egg and three ass whippings.

NFL Draft, from the floorAside from rooting for my team, I also participate in pools each season by picking the winners of each of the week’s games. Instead of my usual gut or statistical picking methods, I decided to trust the wisdom of the crowd on social media to make my selections (the full methodology can be found here). Four weeks into the season, I am sitting just below .500 with a 32-33 record after an abysmal 5-11 showing last week. Hopefully this week’s picks will turn out better:

  • Philadelphia 2, Buffalo 13
  • New Orleans 13, Carolina 3
  • Oakland 9, Houston 7
  • Kansas City -6, Indianapolis 22
  • Cincinnati 22, Jacksonville -6
  • Arizona 9, Minnesota 0
  • Seattle -6, New York Giants 22
  • Tennessee 6, Pittsburgh 10
  • Tampa Bay 13, San Francisco 3
  • San Diego 6, Denver 10
  • New York Jets 10, New England 6
  • Green Bay 16, Atlanta 10
  • Chicago 0, Detroit 16
  • Bye: BAL, CLE, MIA, STL, WAS

How are you picking the season’s winners? If you’d like to try your luck against the social picks, I invite you to join the ESPN Pick ‘em league where Matt LaCasse is currently leading with a 48-16 record.

Every year I’m in a pick ’em league and end up near the bottom of the group. This year I’m 100% picking your picks to see how it goes. So far I’m still near the bottom at 22-22, but I have hope. Keep it up Jeff. I’m following along.

@jimstorer Thanks Jim. Hopefully it works out for you. We’ll need to catch up one of these nights 🙂 This whole experiment is just interesting to me as it shows the fan voice in a different light. Wonder if the NFL will add something similar to MLB when it comes to in-game buzz from fans.
