Social Media Purists? Thoughts?

Last week I was in an interesting debate in a Facebook group on social media purists. After going back and forth, I was kind of tired of typing on my computer and Droid so I decided to record a quick video.

While I am not of the unicorns and rainbows variety, I would say that social media success lies in the conversation, which according to the conversation noted was an overused and cringe-worthy term.  I am all for making money in the space and measuring results, but at the end of the day it is still a conversation.

Would love to hear your thoughts…

Excellent points, Jeff. Like you with “conversation,” I’m not sure what “social media purist” means. Not really. It kind of makes it sound like you only use social media for good, with no thought of monetary gain. But that’s not reality. We’re a <a href=”http://www.poweryourmarketing.com” title=”Powerhouse Marketing”>Kansas City web design</a> firm, and we urge all of our clients to tap into the unlimited potential that is social media. Every one of them can contribute; every one of them can gain by participating.

What’s up Jeff? I really enjoyed (and appreciated) you talking about conversation and handling this video like a real conversation: just sitting on the couch and talking like a real person and expressing a well thought-out position. Great points, thanks for sharing, and I look forward to more from ya.

I really like Jeffs approach here. It’s definitely a “brass tacks” kind of talk. I will be honest and say that I think there were a couple times where it felt really repetitive, but other than that, great insight, and personality. Jeff, you seem like a really rad person. Can’t wait to see more. @jmatthicks Always good to see you rolling around the blogs 😉

@jmatthicks The couch is my preferred video spot. I just was sick of typing out things, but really enjoyed getting it out there. There is also a sister video that will come out Wednesday that echoes similar sentiments.

@charlesriccardi @jmatthicks Sorry if I rambled, with video there is no ramble filter. I think the biggest takeaway for me is that you need to be open and honest while making a buck at the same time 🙂
