Paying it forward

A week ago, I did a review of Jim Sterne’s Social Media Metrics, that was not too flattering. In response, Jim tweeted that a refund was in the mail. I thought nothing of it, however when I checked my mail at work today there was a crisp $20 bill waiting for me with a letter from Jim. This was an unexpected gesture that really touched me.

Now I don’t do these video review to get any kind of compensation or freebies, although they would be nice, but rather to share what I have read with the community. I also don’t do the reviews to hurt anyone’s feelings or overly trash their work.

With that said, I could not accept Jim’s refund, but decided to pay it forward in a donation to Autism Speaks for the $20. I will also give my copy of Jim’s book to the first person who comments on the video or post with one small caveat – that you donate $20 to a charity of your choice and let me know what it was.

It is that simple, donate $20, comment and I will give the first commenter the book. It is in great condition and was only read once.  In closing, thank you Jim Sterne for helping inspire me to pay it forward.

This is a really cool example of social media used to the best advantage. Totally inspiring. I’m sending $20 to Compassion Canada, and would love to read the book.

I am not interested in that book, but I want to commend you on your inspired method of dealing with all of this!
