Five for Friday – Heading on Vacation Edition

By the time you read this post, I will be somewhere on the road to New Jersey. This weekend will mark the Gone Fishingfirst time Baby Espo heads down to the Garden State to meet the majority of our extended family that he has yet to meet. Today also marks the beginning of my paternity leave away from the office, where I plan to be pretty much focused on lil man and not too much on this digital space. But that is not to say that you won’t be in good hands. For my two week hiatus I have some great guest bloggers lined up that you won’t want to miss including Jason Mollica, Michael Dolan, Nick Gosselin and Anne Weiskopf. Hope you had a great week and I’ll catch you sometime over the next two weeks, until then, here is this week’s edition of Five for Friday.

Fear on the streets of London – I am not sure if you have seen the news, but London is in a state of anarchy right now. Not going to lie, but I fear for my London friends’ safety. This post from Antonia Harler offers an intimate insight into what she is experiencing.

NYPD forms new social media unit to mine Facebook and Twitter for mayhem – This article from the NY Daily News was really relevant given what is going on in London right now. The NYPD is launching a unit that will troll through social channels to help identify potential problems including riots and gang activity as it is posted on social networks.

Gamification, Behaviorism and Bullshit – This article blew my mind this week. It concisely offers an argument against everyone’s favorite term… Gamification. Definitely give it a read.

Making the Most of Flickr: Promoting Your Brand, Your Business and Yourself – If you are like me, Flickr is one social network you probably neglect. To me it is just something added and an extra step for someone who barely takes the photos off his camera. I know I suck at it and would love to be better at it. This really smart post from Michael Dolan is one that I bookmarked to remind myself to stop being lazy and get cracking on Flickr.

Are you one of the crazies? – Do you spend more time fretting over your phone, Twitter, Facebook or other superficial thing? If so, you may be one of them.

This is the kind of obscure, opinionated content curation that I love. Too bad I discovered you just when you’re headed out on vacation. Have a good time, anyway!
