What can I say other than this is the greatest weekend of the year. Last night gave us a tease for Sunday’s 
full docket of NFL action. Unless you are a Steelers fan, I wish your team good luck and if you are a Steelers fan, well kiss my ass. Aside from the excitement for the first week of the NFL season, I am happy to have this short week come to an end, mostly because it felt like I never had a chance to catch my breath. How was your week? Hopefully it was a good one, here’s this week’s edition of Five for Friday, have a good one and catch you on Monday.
Infographics for Nonprofits: The New Storytelling – While I am not a huge fan of infographics, I was quite pleased when I picked this nugget up from Geoff Livingston’s Twitter stream this week, because it highlighted how these shiny objects can be used for good. In a world of ever-shrinking attention spans, non-profits are able to showcase their story or cause in a bite-sized manner that is less obtrusive than long-winded emails or pitch letters.
White House Creates Crowdsourcing Site – Since the President spoke last night, I found it quite fitting to add this piece from Gini Dietrich on the White House’s crowdsourcing site. There is some lively discussion on the page, and I for one don’t think the site will work and is just a political stunt to reactivate a stagnant donor base.
How Bing Uses CTR in Ranking, and more with Duane Forrester – This article was passed along to me from my buddy on Vistaprint’s search marketing team. What makes it truly interesting is to see how Bing incorporates social sharing into their overall algorithm.
Social Media, Pretend Friends, and the Lie of False Intimacy – All of us in the echo-chamber that is social media need to take a step back and realize that we are a lot like Bilbo Baggins’ birthday speech in Lord of the Rings. We really don’t know many of our connections as well as we thought we did and know too little about the ones we are really close to. Insightful read that is worth peeping out.

Thanks for including my infographics piece in your Five for Friday roundup. It is nice to see some nonprofits using these for good, and I’m sure more will come. The challenge, of course, is in creating good infographics, not shoddy or confusing ones. Thanks, too, for the heads up on the informative article about Bing search, which opened my eyes to how Bing is making its strong play for search.
I can’t decide if the new Muppets movie looks ridiculous or really good. What do you think? The 20 things didn’t help, either. Hmmm…

@ginidietrich Well it can be hit or miss, I will probably take the baby to see it like we took him to see Winnie the Pooh, who knows, maybe my maad Klout skills will get me a perk. And seriously the Muppets are legit. Have you ever seen the Kenny Rogers gambler with them? A Muppet swills whiskey and smokes a cigarette. Enjoy the game and I am sure there will be a few F the Pack chants coming from that stadium in between Cutler pout breaks.

@Al Smith see when college football shakes their whole high-and-mighty bullshit around “student athletes” I will watch. It disgusts me the fake shock around the U and how their players took money and how the OSU stuff for tattoos. What 20-year old kid wouldn’t take $ if presented to him when they had none?
