Five for Friday

What’s happening everyone? Hope your week went by as quick and as productive as mine was. I can tell you that shoveling snow with a bum shoulder sucks, with Mrs. Espo well into her pregnancy, there is no other option. Oh well – it is life after all. Also in the process of SXSW today so hopefully I’ll get to meet some of you in person and catch up with others who I haven’t seen in a while. Well not much more to say than have a great weekend and enjoy this week’s edition of Five for Friday (let me know what articles I missed in the comments).

Some pols say Twitter ban for the birds – I find this new policy from the Massachusetts state government to be awful and antiquated. Sure blocking a social network may have made sense three years ago, but today, well that is just silly. I am sure that many at the state house still use Internet Explorer to access the Web so the security complaint is totally not valid. I also would argue that it’s a way to stifle communications between the legislators and their constituents. But hey if it is a consolation to state senators, the Governor and his staff can still Tweet so you should just listen to them for information even if it doesn’t relate to your district.

Facebook Fan Page Notifications By Email [HOW TO] – I am not going to lie, but the one thing that sucks about Facebook is having to log into a fan page to see if new comments have been added. It’s a time suck and annoying, but now hopefully that will change with this new service, Hyper Alerts. I am checking it out this week and will give you the skinny in a week’s time.

Social media gurus: Have mercy on the lowly communicator: Cut the crap, please? –  You know what, Mark Ragan said what a lot of folks are thinking. The guru folk need to stop speaking guruese as it is one of the languages that they rally against, what was that called? Oh yeah – Jargon.

Social networking leads to sex faster? – Would you believe that 80% of women say that social media has made leads to sex faster? Well according to a sex survey from Shape and Men’s Fitness Magazine, its true. It can also be said that 70% of women Google men that they are thinking about dating.

Insider the mind of a community manager – I just love this infographic and wanted to share it.
