Five for Friday 10.01.10

For some reason it feels like it should be Tuesday, not Friday. I guess that is the first sign that I am going crazy or have just gone without a functional bathroom in my house for way too long. Cross your fingers for me that the electrician comes and I can paint. Hope your week was good, any weekend plans? I’ll be working on a report that picks the World Series winner using social media, be on the lookout for that on Tuesday. So enough of the rambling, here is this week’s edition of Five for Friday.

Social media and the big conversation “fail” – What is a conversation? I know what my opinion is, but what is yours? How many of your social friends and fans do you really know? This piece from Mark Schafer really puts my whole way of thinking on its head as well as putting the little things into perspective. I am with him in thinking that the small things matter and it’s good to reach out and touch someone.

The Continued Rise of Blogging – This study from eMarketer takes a dive into blog readership in the US and makes projections into 2014. One interesting tidbit is that by 2014, 60 percent of the US Internet population will read blogs in comparison to the 13.3 percent that will update a blog.

KFC pays college women for ad space on buns – Now the only reason that this one is in this week’s edition is because it goes to show you that sex sells – even if it is for a heart attack sandwich. I wish I could have made $500 for handing out coupons back in my college days.

Are You a Social Media Expert or a Social Media Whore? – This is an entertaining piece that calls a spade a spade and really made my day so enjoy as it will brighten yours as well.

Measuring Real People vs. Normal Analytics – measurement is a popular topic for all kinds of industries. From the business analyst down the hall to the guy sitting next to you making social media metrics work, someone is crunching numbers. This post takes a look at measuring real people and brings up some great points.
