Five for Friday 12.10

Where did this week go? Seriously each day I looked up and saw 6:30 on my clock and wondered how the hell it got so late. On the news front we’ve been inundated with Tiger tryst after Tiger tryst and you wonder what will be the line for the sponsors.  My company released a small business survey this week that had some interesting tidbits including the number of businesses without a Web site.  There is also a guest post from yours truly up on the PR Breakfast Club today on why PR should run your company’s SM efforts. With that I am done and humbly offer you this week’s Five for Friday.

Trust is the New Transparency – With social networking, we are able to network far beyond our local networks and cities. However, this quasi-anonymousness can be a scary place when disclosing certain information. The biggest question becomes who can we trust? While I would like to say that given the nature of the medium, everyone should be trustworthy, we know that is not the case. This post from Valeria Maltoni, lays some guidelines that we should all strive to follow.

Popeye Creator E.C. Segar Gets Spinach With His Google Logo – Now this article isn’t much to read (300 words or so) and really isn’t relevant to social media at all. However, it is just another example of Google making their brand and logo transcend the real of everyday marketing into one that incorporates news and pop culture. Much like Sesame Street, I am partial to Popeye the Sailor Man.

10 Things Clients Say that Scare PR Professionals – This post was kicking around the groups that I converse in on Twitter and couldn’t help but get a chuckle out of Sue Young’s great list of things that drive us flacks batty. Look at the list and tell me you haven’t heard at least nine of the 10.

10 Reasons Media Relations Will Get Easier in 2010 – Seems like I am going a bit list happy this week, oh well, it’s a great post nonetheless. Hopefully a few of the predictions on the list come true for 2010. I have a feeling that a few just might.

Burger King Showergirl Fail – This post comes way of my buddy Aerocles who brings to light the latest and perhaps greatest of Burger King’s bad news jeans ads. Unfortunately the bugger behemoth hasn’t realized that their ads turn off more of the population than they turn on.

Today’s #followfriday was brought to us by the letter D.
