Five for Friday 12.04.09

Who doesn’t love short weeks? I came back from my wedding vacation to a whopping 1,200 actionable emails, but at least it was only a three-day week with the company holiday party tonight. So I am grateful for that. So with the abridged week, I am offering you a condensed version of Five for Friday (over the course of three days) as well as a great Twitter rap song.

Branding and Sustainability… In Germany McDonald’s Changes Arches Logo Color To Green – This one goes under Things that Make you go Hmm (yes it’s a link to the video). Seriously McDonalds, changing the background to green to show your love of the environment, it’s senseless. It also shows that the “green” trend has hit pandemic level. I still remember when they had the separate Styrofoam trash can. Changing to green also doesn’t help the fact that their food makes people fat.

Facebook Slams Twitter: FarmVille is Bigger Than You – This one is from Mashable and kind of goes back to the whole schoolyard bully scenario. Are Facebook games addicting – yes (especially if you just sit around on your ass all day) just check your news feed. With 350 million global users, this should not come as a surprise to anyone, but is rather another attempt by Facebook to push supremacy. It would have been more interesting to see what they will be charging companies to use their service as they make the numbers of clicks more transparent.

Effective Customer Engagement in a Social World – A New Mandate – Great article from Social Media today on the need for engagement for companies in the social world.

Is Twitter really just an engagement tool? – This one is along the lines of the previous article by Arik Hanson. The provocative piece asks whether Twitter is simply a sales avenue or if it is something that can be used both ways by companies. Uses Target and Dell as examples and the comments spark some further discussion.

Are clients ready for PR 2.0? – Since I just finished the Breakenridge/Solis book, the topic is still fresh in my mind; this was a well timed post by Keith over at the PR Breakfast Club. There are some good points and questions that all of us Flacks and SM folks have asked ourselves. My question to the piece is if the results are there, would the client care even if they aren’t ready?

This week’s #FollowFriday goes out to my awesome guest posters over the wedding week. Alphabet to resume next week.

Bonus – Twitter Rap

Bonus #2 – Wedding Pics
