Five for Friday 1.22

Is it me, or did this week go by really fast? Well if your week didn’t I apologize, but it sucks to be you. There were a lot of interesting things that happened over the course of the week including a minor election in Massachusetts (and my video response was picked up by CNN & BBC [link to follow]), brewing up the beer for St. Patty’s Day and meeting a new friend for lunch at the local sandwich shop. Thanks to Twitter for the connection along with Kate.  I also have a good deed alert and favor to ask of everyone. If you are in the Boston area and love animals or would like to donate prizes to an event, please check out this post from my good buddy the PRCog. Well other than that, there were some pretty great stories in the realm of PR and Social Media, and below are my top five. Please feel to comment with stories I missed or should have been included in the list.

Four styles of marketing on Twitter – Jason Falls makes a great case for the types of Twitter marketers. Marketing folks are now catching up to what has been going on in social media.  After seeing Dell making oodles of money has now become, What is this Twitter that you speak of, and how do we make money from it. This may also be the best description of folks in the space as well:

Man arrested under Terrorism Act for Doncaster airport Twitter joke – (UK) – File this one as people being stupid. Seriously who thinks that it is ever OK to blow up an airport? The problem I have with this kid is that making a joke to friends is OK, but don’t broadcast dumb things like this. While the kid in the story says he had to describe Twitter to the cops, he still misses the point that there are certain things you shouldn’t say.

How to develop a content strategy process – This piece from Valeria Maltoni responds to a post from Brian Solis on the new age of social media. The thought process on laying out a plan is great and covers all of the bases that usually scare flacks and marketing folks alike. I also love the graph that she opens the piece with.

For young cancer patients, outreach via social media – Cancer is one of those things that touches all of us in some way, shape or form. This is a great story passed along by Lauren Fernandez that is a definite read for anyone interested in the work that Roswell Park in Buffalo is doing via social media.

Seesmic Look Tries to Take Twitter to the Masses – This article comes from Mashable but is an interesting happening in the Twitterverse. The question really is can Seesmic (whose desktop application rocks) bring Twitter applicable and fun for the masses?
