Five for Friday 1.5

This week was filled with some interesting tidbits and some unfortunate events. Actually make that two events, the first was being locked out of my Twitter account due to a phishing scheme and the second was a bug with the blog. A special thanks to Danny Brown and PRCog for helping me sort through the issues. I really don’t have much more – sorry – here is this week’s edition of Five for Friday.

Please Stop Automatically Equating Number of Twitter Followers With Real Influence – This is one of my pet peeves when talking to people on the impact of Twitter. Folks focus on the quantity of followers over quantity. This isn’t sex, its business and the small talk and conversations matter. I love the audacity of the response if you don’t follow me, I will unfollow you.

For Some Consumers, Online Video Ads Still Grate – As video competes with social media for marketing spend and buzz, these numbers are very interesting. Worth checking out, especially if you feel that these are slam dunks.

How Web Video SEO is Finally Coming of Age – Now Web video continues to fascinate me and I figured my education from Steve Garfield’s Get Seen, gave a pretty good idea of video. However this article really takes a deep dive into the state of the industry so to speak in terms of SEO and video.

Six Ways to Find Social Media Talent – This is a great article from David Armano. Social media jobs are popping up left and right without having enough competent folks to fill the jobs. What is left is “experts” weaseling their way into slots on the corporate ladder. If you are looking to add a position like this to your organization, peep out this piece.

Twitter you made a fool of me! – This post comes way of my good friend Christina Khoury and is a great example of vetting the news. While the post itself speaks to an issue that she had, it can also be used as a larger scale push for vetting of news in the day and age of Social Media.

Special Bonus – Social Media Drinking Game

Hey look, it’s Friday and I know that you are mailing it in after the clock ticks 5:00. So why not drown the week’s misery or celebrate with this cool new game from @evilprguy and @lulula.

First of all, I keep forgetting to give @ecilPRguy props for his game. I passed it around the office and it got huge laughs. Second, yes to your first link! A thousand times yes. I know I'll never have 2,000 or 10,000 followers on Twitter: I don't need to! And it rankles when someone treats me like some second-class Twitter citizen (if anyone says Twitizen I will punch faces) just because my number is smaller than theirs.

You will meet both of those numbers. Anyone who treats you like a 2nd class citizen should be nominated for the Cog DB awards. Now I may hope to goad someone into saying Twitizen to get under your skin and get a knuckle sandwich.@evilprguy is the man, Toronto dubbed him the loud American.
