Yellowbook – Quit Wasting Paper

Hey, at least you got some good kindlin', right? ;)

I've always thought the same thing when these would arrive on our door steps. I received one at the beginning of the year while living in Shreveport, LA and it sat in a drawer until I moved out over 6 months later. Never even thought to use it. Now, back in '97, I remember using one. Now? Never crosses my mind. There are a LOT of trees to saved, a LOT of money to be invested elsewhere, and a lot of clients who could be marketing to a much better audience than the Yellowpages' pull.

I know there are probably some people who use them, maybe elderly citizens who don't have/understand the internet yet. It seems like some sort of mail-in sign-up or re-subscription would be easier and cheaper than delivering millions of those 10lb books a year.

I got super frustrated by this over the weekend as well. I set up http://www.yellowbookstoplittering.com... it's gotten a ton of traffic today. It seems as if the frustration is common.

It probably does, but there are more economical ways to track results as well. I am sure that asking old ladies where they heard of your business first will come up with the same thing.

And yet, by most accounts from businesses who use sophisticated ways to track where phone calls come from, the print books still generate a lot of business for them. Goes against todays popular wisdom, but so it is.
